About BMW M3

It was in the spring of 1985 that the veteran automobile manufacturer, BMW, decided to launch the finest driver’s car in the world and they came up with the BMW M3. The car was actually manufactured by the in-house motorsport section of BMW, the BMW M. The BMW M3 series along with the BMW M5 series cars have been benchmarks for sport sedans over the past three decades.

The car has been available in many versions which include E30, followed by E36, E46 and then the E90, E92, E93. Available in saloon, coupe and even convertible body style, the BMW M3 has always been seen in major races and championships and it has registered many wins as well.

The newest BMW M3 name is reserved only for the sedan model. The coupe is now called BMW M4. If you’ve been a fan of the M3, you will certainly love the M4 just as much.

A Champion Car

BMW M3 0-60Talking of championships and races, the BMW M3 has been the winning car in the following races and championships:

When it comes to races, the BMW M3 has registered 5 wins in the Guia Race in the year 1987, 1988 and then back to back three years from 1991 to 1993. In 1987, the BMW M3 has also won the World Rally championship

Performance

The performance of the BMW M3 has been eye catching since its initial launch in 1985. The 1987 M3 E30 cars used to get a 0-60 mph time of around 7 seconds with a quarter mile time of 15.1 seconds. For that time, it was quite an impressive performance.

With the various versions of the car hitting the roads, the performance has been improving and the BMW M3 GTS in 2012 had a 0-60 mph time of 3.6 seconds along with a ¼ mile time of 11.6 seconds.

The M3 E36 had a 0-60 mph time of about 5.6 seconds and the car took 14.2 seconds to cover quarter mile. The M3 E46 cars had better performance with 4.7 seconds to lock 60mph speed and ¼ mile timings were 13.6 seconds. The E90/E92/E93 versions of the car have been delivering a 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds and a quarter mile coverage in 12.6 seconds or so.

The latest model year of the M3 can get to 0 to 60 mph in as little as 3.8 seconds and 1/4 mile at 12 seconds flat. No matter what year the M3 was produced, it was always the benchmark for its class and continues to be that way today.
