BMW X4 Performance Overview

BMW’s X4 performance record spans 2015 to 2022 across 15 verified tests, covering the model’s transition from its first F26 entries to the quicker G02 lineup. Early F26 models used turbocharged gasoline fours and sixes, ranging from the 240-hp N20B20 xDrive28i to 355-hp six-cylinder versions. That spread showed clearly in testing: the 2015 xDrive28i needed 6.3 seconds to reach 60 mph, while the 2015 xDrive35i cut that to 5.1 seconds. By 2017, the B58-powered M40i reset the pace at 4.4 seconds to 60.

The second-generation G02, introduced for 2019, moved the X4 further toward high-output six-cylinder performance. Its tested engine range expanded from 248 hp in xDrive30i trims to 503 hp in S58-powered M Competition form, with all recorded examples remaining gasoline-powered and turbocharged or twin-turbocharged. The 2019 M40i improved the benchmark to 4.2 seconds, then the 2020 M Competition dropped to 3.3 seconds.

By 2022, the quickest recorded X4 was the M Competition at 3.2 seconds to 60 mph and 11.6 seconds in the quarter-mile at 119 mph. That places the current G02 generation at the top of the X4’s tested performance range today.
