Germany is known worldwide for two things: beer and cars. No wonder the best selling luxury automakers are German companies. They make sturdy and well performing cars that notable people wish to be associated with. As part of the “German Big 3”, Mercedes-Benz is not shy to claim that is the best.
Tracing back its roots, Mercedes-Benz has its origins with Karl Benz, who created the first petrol powered car in the world. This is the reason why people claim that the first automobile belonged to Mercedes-Benz. The first Mercedes vehicles were first marketed in 1901. Not until 1926 did Mercedes-Benz had its own cars in its own name.
During the World War II period, Mercedes-Benz produced the 770 model, the Fuhrer’s car of choice. The 770 was customized to have bulletproof windshields which made this model a great part of any car enthusiasts’ collection.
Speed and function is what Mercedes-Benz is aiming with the new Mercedes-AMG GT S. They claim that it is hand crafted by racers, maybe it truly is. With its V8 4 litre engine, it has the capacity to drag the AMG GT S from 0-100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds. It’s faster that most of its peers, shamefully faster. And yet, Mercedes-Benz claims it’s still for everyday transport. Go figure.
If you’re one of those who doesn’t want all that power because drinks up a lot of petrol, then why not have the new Mercedes B-Class Electric Drive. It might not be as powerful, but it’s more cost efficient and has basically zero emission.
The one thing that separates the B-Class Electric Drive from its class is the capacity to endure long drives with its electric batteries. The battery can also charge fast. Mercedes-Benz claims that for every 100 kilometers, charging time would be less than 1.5 hours at 400V/16A. It’s both economical and environmentally friendly.
Mercedes-Benz has moved from looking into the future of automobiles and into the far future or science fiction. The company is now developing ways in order to make their vehicles a primary place as a luxury lounge, without losing their transportation capability.
Their goal is to develop autonomous vehicles. Mercedes-Benz pioneered the feasibility of an autonomous driving experience. With this, they have tested the S 500 Intelligent Drive, a Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The vehicle is smart enough to know where to drive and plan its own route.
All of this is now “partially” a reality. The new Mercedes-Benz E and S-Class are equipped with the new DISTRONIC PLUS. It has a Steering Assist and Stop&Go Pilot which can steer the vehicle, even in a traffic jam.
With such history and innovation, Mercedes-Benz deserves its spot in the “German Big 3”. True to their motto, Mercedes-Benz truly is the best.
