About Audi A4

The elegance and class that an Audi has to offer is possibly not found in any other line of executive cars, and when it comes to the Audi A4, the refined engine and the balanced handling makes it one of the ‘true driver’s car’.

The A4 has long been stuck in a rivalry between the BMW 3 series and the Mercedes C class automobiles. Despite the fact that it usually came with a smaller engine than the rivals, the A4 always held its own.

It held distinct advantages over its competitors such as the turbo engine and the all-wheel drive system. However, the basic front-wheel drive model usually had difficulty keeping up with its rear-wheel drive competitors.

Due to the price of the Audi A4, some car enthusiasts argued that the VW alternative was almost the same as the Audi even though it comes with a smaller price tag.

Brief History

Audi A4 0-60The first time Audi, the subsidiary German car manufacturing company of the Volkswagen group, had launched Audi A4 was way back in 1994. This magnificent car started its journey with the B5 series and over the last twenty years, the car has seen another three generations with B6, B7, B8 and B9 series coming up.

While the first generation Audi A4 was available in the sedan and estate/wagon form, the second and third generation cars (B6 and B7 respectively) came with a convertible version which made it more popular amongst the younger crowd. However, in the fourth generation of the car, the convertible form got rolled back to compact executive mode.

Years of Production

Since 1994 till 2014 Audi A4 has been in continuous production, however the versions and generations have changed from time to time. The first car was launched in 1994, which was a Audi A4 B5 series car. The B6 series was produced in Germany from 2000 to 2006 whereas the B7 series was produced from 2004 to 2008. The convertible version of the B7 was produced from 2007 to 2009. The B8 series has been in production from October 2007 till 2015.

The current generation car of B9 series has been in production since 2015 and the production still continues.

Engine Specifications

The current version of the car has a turbo-charged 2L four cylinder engine that produces 220 hp and 258 ft-lbs. of torque. It allows the Audi A4 to reach 60 mph time in as low as 5.6 seconds and a quarter mile time of 14.4 seconds, according to Car and Driver.

In addition to being relatively quick for its engine size, the A4 is also not too shabby on the gas either. It’s rated at 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway, which means you get plenty of performance for the amount of gas burnt.

Available Body Types & Engines

The B9 series of A4 is available in various body types, thanks to the varying demands of the customers. The vehicle is available in both the sedan (saloon) and wagon (avant) body types.

With the initial generations of the car not being a pure success, the engineers and designers had to put in a lot of effort to make the car more acceptable and the latest B9 series has paid off well in terms of the success rating for the Audi A4. Today Audi A4 is one of the best selling cars that the German company has manufactured so far.
