Spec) needing 13.2 seconds to reach 60 mph from its 74-hp naturally aspirated gasoline setup. By the B3 years, output had risen into the 134-hp range and the 1990 GL Sedan cut that to 9.2 seconds. The B4 then brought six-cylinder performance into the range, as the 1993 GLX V6 Sedan reached 60 mph in 7.7 seconds.
The biggest acceleration gains came through the B5 and B6 eras, when the Passat expanded from four- and six-cylinder gasoline engines to include turbocharged and diesel options, and power climbed as high as 270 hp.
