Kia Sorento Performance Overview
Kia’s Sorento has evolved from a truck-based midsize SUV into a quicker, broader-range family crossover across 33 verified tests spanning 2003 to 2024. Early BL-generation models (2003–2009) were defined by a 192-hp naturally aspirated gasoline V6, with the 2003 EX V6 reaching 60 mph in 9.1 seconds. The XM generation (2011–2014) widened output from 175 to 290 hp and produced the first major step forward, as the 2011 SX V6 cut the run to 6.9 seconds, while some lower-output trims remained much slower, including the 2011 EX at 10.1 seconds.
The UM generation (2015–2020) kept gasoline power but added turbocharged options alongside naturally aspirated engines, settling into a narrower performance band; its best result came from the 2016 SX V6 at 7.1 seconds to 60 mph. With MQ4 from 2021 onward, the Sorento added true powertrain diversity with gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid versions, and performance moved forward again. The 2021 SX Prestige X-Line recorded 6.3 seconds, before the 2022 SX set the model’s quickest figures at 6.0 seconds to 60 mph and a 14.6-second quarter-mile at 97 mph. Today’s Sorento range combines 227–281 hp with the broadest mix of propulsion choices in the model’s history.
