Early first- and second-generation cars used naturally aspirated gasoline fours in the 50–76 hp range, with the 1973 3-door Hatchback reaching 60 mph in 12.9 seconds, while the slowest figure in the dataset came from the 1975 CVCC 3-door Hatchback at 17.4 seconds. By the 1980 1500GL 3-door Hatchback, the benchmark had improved to 10.9 seconds, and the 1986 Si 3-door Hatchback cut that to 10.57.

The 1988-2000 period established the Civic Si as the main factory performance thread, moving from the 1990 Si 3-door Hatchback’s 8.5-second run to the 1992 Si 3-door Hatchback at 7.5.
