Honda Insight Performance Overview
Honda’s Insight traces a hybrid-only performance story across 16 verified tests spanning 2000 to 2019. In ZE1 form (2000–2006), the original ECA1-powered hatchback used a 73-hp hybrid setup and established the model’s baseline with a 10.5-second 0-60 run in the 2000 Hatchback. Across four tests from that first era, acceleration remained consistent and economy-focused rather than quick, defining the Insight’s early performance identity.
The ZE2/ZE3 generation (2010–2014) moved to the 98-hp LDA3 hybrid system and modestly improved straight-line pace. The quickest result of that period came from the 2010 EX Hatchback at 10.3 seconds to 60 mph, while the slower end of the spread included the 2010 EX w/Nav Hatchback at 11.2 seconds. Quarter-mile performance in this middle phase stayed in the high-17-second range, reflecting incremental gains rather than a major shift.
That changed with ZE4 in 2019. Using the 151-hp LFA1 hybrid powertrain, the redesigned sedan cut the model’s best 0-60 time to 7.3 seconds in the 2019 EX Sedan and also produced the lineup’s quickest quarter-mile at 15.8 seconds at 84.6 mph. As tested here, the Insight stands as a hybrid sedan that ended its run with its clearest performance step forward.
