About Honda Civic

The Honda Civic is a compact car that is one of the most popular car models of the Japanese automaker. It was first introduced in 1972 as a two-door model. A few months later, it was reconfigured into a three-door hatchback.

Through the years, it has undergone numerous generational changes. From 1972 to 2000, it was considered a subcompact car. Today, it is classified as a compact car.

Honda Civic competes in a very tough market, with competition coming from its longtime rival Toyota Corolla as well as other models like the Hyundai Elantra, Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus, and Kia Forte. However, the Japanese company made sure that the latest incarnation of the Civic won’t be left behind as it adds a new Special Edition model to go with the base LX and the high end EX models. There are also new features like automatic climate control and lane-watch camera.

Specs

  • Transmission: Manual/Automatic/CVT automatic
  • Fuel Economy Ratings: 28 mpg city driving, 36 mpg highway driving (manual)

Performance

There are four engine options for the Honda Civic. The base engine is the 1.8 liter inline 4 engine with an output of 143 horsepower and 129 pound-feet of torque.

There’s also a 2.4 liter inline 4 engine that can churn out 205 horsepower at 7000 rpm and 174 pound feet of torque at 4,400 rpm. This engine can produce fuel efficiency ratings of 22/31 mpg for the Civic.

There’s also a 1.5 liter inline 4 with electric motor powertrain with output of 110 horsepower and 127 pound-feet of torque, and a 1.8 liter inline-4 CNG engine with 110 horsepower and 106 pound-feet of torque.

Through the years, the Civic has proven to be a very reliable car. The case remains the same for the 2015 Civic. It is very fuel efficient, making it an ideal car for those who commute to work. For motorists looking for a car that gives them more driving pleasure, then the Civic can give them what they want with its solid brakes and sharp steering.

The Civic rides comfortably, with superior handling and steering that should satisfy even the most demanding of drivers.

However, this is not to say that the Civic is the best in its class when it comes to performance. Civic pales in comparison with the Kia Forte and Ford Focus as the two models are more sporty and agile.

Interior and Exterior

The latest Honda Civic is a head turner, with its chrome grille and accents placed on the trunk lid. Check out the coupe which has a sportier appearance thanks to its big fog light opening and sleek rose. The Si models also look sporty with its bigger wheels and sporty body work.

Step inside the car and you’ll immediately notice a sleek dash display with a five-inch monitor on top. This displays info for various vehicle systems as well as audio and hands-free phone use. You will also love how well-placed the cabin controls are.

There’s enough legroom and headroom for front and back passengers. There’s enough thigh support at the back due to the rear bench being mounted high enough. In fact, there’s more real world legroom in the Civic compared to the Ford Focus and Chevrolet Cruze.

There is also 12.5 cubic feet of cargo space in this sedan, while the coupe has around 11.7 cubic feet of space.

Standard equipment includes Bluetooth, Pandora Internet radio, and USB port. The SE model also has the LaneWatch side view monitor and automatic climate control on top of an enhanced audio system and 15-inch alum-alloy wheels. The mid-level EX trim features power moonroof, keyless entry and 16-inch alloy wheels while the premium EX-L has leather upholstery and heated front seats.

Safety

The Civic is a top safety pick of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety with the car earning scores of ‘good’ in five areas. It also has a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Key safety features of this car include driver air bag, passenger air bag, rear head and side head air bags, and side air bags. There’s also a four-wheel ABS, brake assist, and electronic stability control.

Price

There are seven Honda Civic models that you can choose from with the base model at around $19,000 (manual transmission). The Hybrid model is priced around $25,000 while the coupe is at $24,000. The Civic is considered a pricey option for a compact car as some of its competitors have prices that start in the $17,000 but it cannot be argued that none of them can match up with the features of this well-loved Honda vehicle.
