Ford Taurus Performance Overview
Ford’s Taurus performance record spans 43 independently verified tests across 1986 to 2016, tracing a front-drive family sedan line that periodically produced quicker SHO variants. Early cars centered on naturally aspirated gasoline V6 power, from the 140-hp Vulcan to Yamaha-developed 3.0-liter DOHC SHO engines rated up to 220 hp. That range showed immediately in testing, from the 1986 LX Wagon at 10.7 seconds to 60 mph to the 1989 SHO Sedan at 6.7 seconds, with the 1991 SHO Sedan improving to 6.6.
Through the 1992-1995 Second Generation, the SHO held a similar pace, with the 1992 SHO Sedan posting 6.8 seconds. The 1996-1999 Third Generation introduced the Yamaha 3.4-liter DOHC V8, but the quickest verified result was a 1997 SHO Sedan at 7.5 seconds. Taurus performance then softened in the 2000-2007 Fourth Generation, where the 2000 SE Sedan led recorded tests at 8.1 seconds, before the 2008 Limited Sedan brought the Fifth Generation back to 6.8.
The modern peak came with the Sixth Generation and its broader engine spread, from 240-hp naturally aspirated and EcoBoost turbo fours to the twin-turbo 365-hp SHO V6. In that era, the 2010 SHO Sedan ran a 13.6-second quarter-mile at 103.2 mph, while the 2013 SHO Sedan set the model’s best 5.2-second 0-60 time. That leaves the final Taurus years as its quickest, still entirely gasoline-powered.

How we verify Ford Taurus performance data
We include only independently published road-test results from automotive publications. Manufacturer-claimed 0–60 times are excluded unless clearly labeled. When multiple publications test the same Ford Taurus trim, each run is listed separately — weather, tires, surface, rollout, and instrumentation all affect results.
