When a car gets this Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Awards that means it has the highest level of quality and value of all vehicles sold in the American market. If you will read this article, you will know why the 2015 Chevrolet Impala was granted this award.

A Brief Look at Chevrolet Impala’s History

Chevrolet Impala 0-60The current Impala model is a full-size car, built by the Chevrolet division of General Motors. GM first used the name Impala for its full-sized show car in 1956 which showed Corvette-like design cues particularly its grille.

It was launched in 1958 as the top of the line Bel Air coupes and convertibles. Production of this model continued with certain design upgrades conforming to the styles of the times, from 1958 to 2000, and up to this date.

In 2000, this car model was re-introduced as a mainstream front-wheel derive Hi-Mid sedan. By February 2014, the car was ranked number one among the most affordable large cars in the United States.

There are 7 variants of the current Chevrolet Impala. If you are interested in buying this car, here are the specifications of three of the variants. This will give you an idea of what this vehicle offers.

1. Car model: LS w/1LS 4dr Sedan
Engine: 2.5 liters, 195 horsepower at 6,300 RPM, 187 lb.-ft. torque at 4,400 RPM
Drive Type: front wheel drive
Towing Capacity: 1,000 lbs.

2. Car model: LT w/2LT 4dr Sedan
Engine: 3.6 liters, 305 hp. at 6,800 RPM, 264 lb.-ft. torque at 5,200 RPM.
Drive Type: front wheel drive
Towing Capacity: 1,000 lbs.

3. Car model: LS w/2FL CNG 4dr Sedan
Engine: 3.6 liters, 260 hp. at 4,800 RPM, 247 lb.-ft. torque at 4,800 RPM.
Drive Type: front wheel drive
Towing Capacity: 1,000 lbs.

The base model performs well for most driving conditions. It has no difficulty in spinning its inside front wheel when accelerating out of corners, even in damp and rainy weather.

An Impala with 4 cylinders uses active noise cancellations so that the car can cancel engine noises that often annoy drivers. It is also the reason why the engine can run as slow as 1,150 RPM with a locked torque converter, without producing noises that makes you think there’s a problem with the car.

But when it comes to quick acceleration, just like going from 30 to 60 mph, you will find that the car seems to lack the needed power. If you want smooth strong power, you need to consider the Impala with a 3.6 liter, V6 engine. It will speed you up from 0 to 60 mph anywhere  from 6 to 8.7 seconds depending on the trim.

Its 305 horses inside the engine will enable you to tow approximately 1,000 pounds of weight.

Fuel Economy

Test drivers of the new Chevrolet Impala found that the V-6’s rated economy jived in at the 20.3 miles per gallon, under a few stretches of 75 miles per hour interstate. With regards to the base model with 2.5 liter engine, test drivers logged in approximately 25.1 mpg, over a stretch of 12 miles that took about 20 minutes.

The EPA rating is at 25 mpg combined (22 city/31 highway) for the base model. The 3.6 liter engine has an EPA rating of 21 mpg combined (19 city/29 highway).

Comfort and Quality

You will find the cabin of the Impala very impressive. Aside from its quietness while running, the cabin is stuffed with comfortable front seats, although the headroom at the rear set is a bit tight. There’s ample space in the huge trunk though.

In the area of fit and finish is where the Impala will catch your attention. The cockpit is covered, studded, paneled and draped with quality materials of different textures. It also has a seat-heater and the car’s door caps are soft to the touch.

Equipped with active noise cancellation, this Chevy will really give you a very quiet riding experience.

This Impala comes with many standard safety features that can give its competition a run for their money.

It has blind spot monitors, adaptive cruise control, a forward collision warning system, a lane-departure warning system, a rearview camera and rear parking sensors. All these safety features are standard issues for the Impala.

There are a total of ten airbags inside the car. You will be interested to know that this car has already earned a top five-star overall rating from the federal government.

Overall, the Chevrolet Impala is probably the best car in its class, considering its features, power, capacity and performance. You will never regret it if you put your money into it.
