About Cadillac ATS
No one can deny that Cadillac is a long standing and very reputable car brand. It has been in existence for as long as we can remember, and has made numerous innovations in its car designs, development and production.
Its latest creation, the 2015 Cadillac ATS carries on the impeccable history of the brand. If you are searching for the latest car that you really can depend on, take a look at the ATS and you won’t be disappointed.
History of the Cadillac ATS in a Nutshell
General Motors designed, engineered, produced and sold the Cadillac ATS, a four-door, five passenger compact luxury sedan. This car is the smallest model in Cadillac’s line up of luxury sedans.
It was launched by GM in January 2012, in the United States. Production came a few months later in July, 2012. A month later the first units of the Cadillac ATS were sold in the US car market.
Starting in November 2013, GM started selling the ATS in China. Depending on the reaction of the car market in Europe, GM may consider bringing the ATS to its shores.
If you will examine the most important specs of the ATS, you will be impressed. Here they are.
- Engine: 2 liters, I-4m Variable valve control, 202hp @ 6,300 RPM, 191 lb.-ft. @ 4,400 RPM of torque
- Transmission: 6 speed automatic
- Steering: Power steering, Speed-sensing steering
- Drive train: Rear-wheel drive
- Brakes: Brake assist, ABS brakes
- Suspension: Four wheel independent suspension
If you are the type that likes to floor the accelerator, you need to consider the turbo four/manual/rear-wheel drive. This will take you from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about 5.5 seconds – a lot faster than the base model.
A well-tuned steering and excellent suspension enables the ATS to outclass all its rivals. It gives the vehicle great dynamic ability resulting in excellent performance and remarkable handling.
The wider track of the ATS will give you more confidence in turning sharp corners. It cuts corners with remarkable balance of ride and comfort.
Although not the best in its class, the fuel efficiency of the ATS is above average.
In the city, the Cadillac ATS equipped with a 4 cylinder engine performs reasonably well, and equally on the highway. An ATS with a V 6 engine performs better on the highway though.
Considering the luxurious character of all ATS models, their ability to provide good fuel economy with great performance is truly noteworthy.
That said, the most fuel efficient ATS model is the rear-drive base model with the 2.5 liter four cylinder engine and six speed automatic transmission. It achieves a fuel rating of 21 miles per gallon in the city, and 33 mpg on the highway, with 25 mpg combined.
The turbo-charged four cylinder engine ATS follows next with 21 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway and 24 mpg combined.
When the ATS is equipped with an AWD system, fuel efficiency slips a bit. The 4 cylinder model will get 20 mpg city, 28 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined. Its V 6 counterpart also lags behind with 18 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined.
The latest safety package and excellent crash-test scores make the Cadillac ATS one of the safest cars you can drive today.
It has earned five-star front impact and rollover ratings from the NHTSA. There is no side-impact test and no overall scores yet from this agency.
The IIHS has not yet tested the crash tested this vehicle, although the present model is exactly the same structurally as its older version. It was given five star ratings across the board by the NHTSA.
Considering the safety package which is standard to all ATS trim levels, it will not be unreasonable to deduce that the current model will pass the IIHS and NHTSA test in flying colors.
Standard safety equipment includes active headrests, a full complement of eight airbags, including front knee airbags; side rear airbags can be added, Bluetooth phone connectivity, and OnStar telematics with emergency services features.
Comfort and Quality
Comfort features did not take a backseat with the ATS.
It has excellent sports seats and a high quality interior. But somehow space is compromised at the rear seats, and the car’s trunk is rather small.
You’ll be comfortable in the seats whatever position you may take. There’s a good balance of suppleness and firmness. It is very roomy inside the cabin and plenty of legroom to make long drives enjoyable and less stressful.
