About Kia Optima
The Kia Optima has been labeled as an ordinary vehicle. When it was launched as the first mid-size sedan of Kia Motors, the car did not offer much in comfort, resale value and reliability compared to its Japanese competitors.
But things have drastically changed since then. The new generation of Kia Optima is an entirely different creation. It has sleek styling that is comparable to high-priced cars; it also has a lot of standard features that you can only find in more expensive car models; and its engine has a lot more power to give. All these latest features enable this car to command a higher resale value.
At first glance, the Kia Optima is not much different with a Hyundai Sonata. But the big difference is that the Kia Optima has a distinct European flair. The car looks and feels like it costs much more than its tag price.
This is a car that you will love for its attractive features, high quality workmanship and materials and superb engine performance.
The Kia Optima is currently available in four trim levels. They are the LX, EX, SX which are the standard and turbo charged variants, and the SX Limited. Another extra version is the Optima Hybrid, which only comes with a single trim.
The LX and EX versions share the same engine specifications: 2.4L four-cylinder gasoline engine, while the SX has a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
The Kia Optima Hybrid is equipped with a four cylinder gasoline engine coupled with an electric motor.
The standard equipment of the Kia Optima LX models includes air conditioning, alloy wheels, satellite radio, a stereo, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and an iPod/USB interface.
The Kia Optima EX and Hybrid are equipped with automatic climate control, keyless entry and ignition and leather upholstery. All the equipment of the EX series is included in the SX models, with the addition of 18-inch alloy wheels, upgraded gauges, a sport-tuned suspension and paddle shifters.
Power and Speed
The Kia Optima LX and EX versions with their 2.4 liter four-cylinder engines produces 200 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. The Optima LX which is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, while the Optima EX is built with a six speed automatic transmission. This type of transmission is also standard to all other Optima models.
The Optima SX and SX Limited models with their 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engines produce 274 horsepower and 269 lb. ft. of torque.
The Kia Optima Hybrid that comes with a four cylinder gasoline engine coupled with an electric motor has a combined output of 206 maximum horsepower which are sent to the car’s six-speed automatic transmission.
The speed ratings of the Kia Optima are also remarkable. It will only take the car 9.5 seconds to reach 100 kilometers per hour starting from true stop. This car also has the capacity to go from 80 kilometers per hour to 120 kilometers per hour in just 6.6 seconds.
You will definitely like the spacious legroom and trunk in this car. However, you need to be careful with the sloping roof line because it impinges on the head space of those seated at the back.
This car boasts of high-end materials and stylish cabin. There are a number of upscale features such as the heated steering wheel and heated rear seats. Its navigation system also has a touch screen making it easy to use the navigation system as well as the audio.
What car drivers will also like with the Kia Optima is its standard features which are only found in more expensive cars. These include a satellite radio, Bluetooth connection, and USB and auxiliary inputs.
A lot of available features will make a ride in this car easy, comfortable and interesting. You will like its cooling glove box, a cooled driver seat, power-folding mirrors, a surround-sound audio system, a rearview camera, a blind spot detection, Kia’s UVO touch-screen infotainment system, a dual-zone automatic climate control, a heated steering wheel, an HD Radio, rear parking sensors, a navigation system, a rear cross traffic alert, push-button start, leather seats, a proximity key and a Uvo voice-command system.
The way the car delivers its power is one of its strong points. Sometimes, there’s a small amount of time that the turbocharged system lags right off the line. But when it hits, the delivered power is really linear and very smooth.
The Kia Optima with the six-speed transmission is perfectly designed that you don’t need to push on the pedal to get the engine’s maximum power.
For all its features and performance, you will never lose if you will get this car. It is the best combination of style, power and price. Kia Motors has really done a lot of improvement in this car’s engine design, as well as its interiors.
