Subaru Outback Performance Overview

Subaru’s Outback performance record spans 30 verified tests across 2001 to 2025, tracing the model from six-cylinder wagon pace to today’s quicker turbocharged crossovers. In BH/BE form, the 2001 H6-3.0 VDC used the 212-hp EZ30 flat-six and reached 60 mph in 8.3 seconds. The BP/BL generation moved the curve sharply with the turbocharged, 250-hp EJ255-powered 2005 2.5XT Limited at 6.8 seconds, establishing the first clear sub-7-second result in the dataset.

Performance spread widened in the BR years as naturally aspirated and turbocharged gasoline versions coexisted from 170 to 265 hp. At one end, the 2010 2.5i Limited needed 10.1 seconds to reach 60 mph; at the other, the 2010 SVI GTk set the model’s quickest recorded launch at 5.7 seconds and covered the quarter-mile in 14.2 seconds at 96.4 mph. BS-generation cars returned to a naturally aspirated lineup, with the 2018 3.6R Touring posting a 6.9-second 0-60 run.

The current BT generation, sold since 2020, combines 182-hp naturally aspirated and 260-hp turbocharged gasoline flat-fours. Its quickest result so far is the 2022 Wilderness at 5.8 seconds to 60 mph, keeping the modern Outback near the 2010 peak while maintaining a broader mainstream performance range.

How we verify Subaru Outback performance data

We include only independently published road-test results from automotive publications. Manufacturer-claimed 0–60 times are excluded unless clearly labeled. When multiple publications test the same Subaru Outback trim, each run is listed separately — weather, tires, surface, rollout, and instrumentation all affect results.
