Over the years, Bentley Motors Limited has been in a lot of ups and downs. Ultimately, the company has been acquired by Volkswagen AG from Rolls-Royce Limited in 1998. The company has stood strong throughout its lifespan and has yet to be driven down by anything less than itself.
Rising from a Financial Crisis
The past never left Bentley. During the very early part of the 21st century, it reported a huge yearly profit. The modernization and investment of Volkswagen seems to pay off. The limited production of Bentley at its Crewe factory created a demand so great that it could not keep up. In 2007, the company even had a record profit of €155 million.
In 2009, however, everything seems to fall apart. Bentley recorded an operating loss of €194 million. The financial crisis felt around the world at that time made a huge impact on the company, reducing its deliveries by more than 50 percent. In 2010, the loss expounded to €245 million.
Harvey Dent said in the movie The Dark Knight, “The night is darkest just before the dawn,” 2011 was a different year for the luxury car manufacturer. In 2011, Bentley recorded an €8 million profit after two years of loss. The Continental GT line is the one to praise, giving Bentley a large portion of the total sales of the company, contributing greatly to its profits.
The recovery continued in 2012 with a profit of €100 million and €176 million in 2013. 2013 saw the second time after the acquisition of Volkswagen that the deliveries of Bentley exceeded the ten thousand mark. A huge portion of this number is separated between the Americas and China.
The 2014 Walpole Awards
The Walpole Awards is one of the most prestigious honor British brands covet. It is a symbol of Britain’s finest luxury goods industry. Not all receive an award from the Walpole. Only those that have made a huge impact to the UK economy deserve the coveted title.
Bentley Motors Limited received a Walpole Award in 2014. It received the British Luxury Brand Overseas. The demand for Bentley luxury cars in the Americas and China helped in catapulting the company in earning the award. The award is truly an honor to Bentley after every crisis that it went through. It simply stapled its mark in the world that it is bound to be a global luxury brand.
The Bentley Limited
With the success and profit of Bentley Motors Limited, it is bound to offer its market a product to dream about. The new iteration of the Bentley Continental series, the Continental GT3-R, is a testament to its luxurious and elegant product line, worthy of its Walpole Award. The beauty of the exterior is just as gorgeous as the interior design. It is simply built for speed.
With only 100 units produced, the Continental GT3-R is an extremely rare gem to have. British Top Gear tested the vehicle and are in awe at its ride quality and design. With a 4.0 litre, TwinTurbo V8 engine, they had the great desire of burying their right foot hard. However, the 420mm carbon ceramic front discs and 356mm rear discs are enough to bring the car to a full stop.
