About Kia K900
For sure, you would be interested to own a car that earned the distinction “The International Car of the Year” right? This is exactly the award that the Road and Travel Magazine gave to the Kia K900 in November 20, 2014. It is also the tribute that the Los Angeles Auto Show gave to the 2015 Kia K900.
The all new Kia K900 is a luxury sedan that has a stunning design, excellent engineering and a package of luxury features that makes it the top of its class. Surely, this is a car that you need to consider if you are in the market for a luxury sedan.
A Brief Look at Kia K900’s History
The Kia K900 is also called Kia K9 by its manufacturer, Kia Motors of South Korea. This car replaces the Opirus sedan which was previously sold in Korea. It is regarded as a better car than the Kia 7/Cadenza.
This car was introduced in South Korea in May 2012. By June 2013, it was made available not just in South Korea, but also in the Middle East, Russia, the United States, Colombia and Canada.
Internationally, the K900 was launched in public at the Frankfurt Motor Show as the Kia GT concept car. This Kia GT was a four-door, rear-wheel drive sedan with suicide doors.
Here are the most important specifications of the Kia K900, if you are thinking of buying it.
- Engine: 5.0 Liter, V8, DOHC, 32-valve, Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI), 420 hp. @ 6,400 rpm, 376 lb.-ft. @ 5,000 rpm of torque
- Transmission: Electronically Controlled 8-Speed Automatic, Shift-by-Wire
- Steering wheel: Rack Mounted Motor Driven Power Steering (R-MDPS)
- Drive train: Front Wheel Drive
- Brakes: 4-Wheel Disc Brakes w/ ABS, Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist System (BAS)
- Suspension: Front: Independent, Multi-Link, with Stabilizer Bar; Rear: Independent, Multi-Link, with Stabilizer Bar
The V-8 engine of the Kia K900 delivers adequate power although with some throttle lag. But the car’s handling is decent enough which makes it easy to drive.
When flooring the accelerator pedal, you will notice a bit of lag in shift response and also some lag in the throttle. But you could change the K900s shift lever to manual-shift mode if you want more control on its transmission.
There are three drive options which you can choose – Normal, Sport, and Eco-drive. This feature remaps the transmission’s shift points according to your choice. As you change the driving mode, you will also vary the feel of the electric power steering.
If you want more accurate response, shift to Sport mode. Changing to Eco mode will downgrade the car’s performance but without the wet-blanket effect often associated with such settings. If you are not wont to changing too frequently, you will be better off with the Normal mode.
The top trim level of Kia K900 with a 5.0 liter, V 8 engine and an 8 speed automatic transmission gets a combined rating of 18 miles per gallon. In the city, it can get 15 mpg, and on the highway, it gets 23 mpg.
The base model with a 3.8 liter, V 6 engine and the same transmission achieves a higher combined rating of 21 mpg or 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
These fuel ratings are not exactly bad for a luxury sedan, but they are not impressive either.
This car is fitted with enough safety features that make it safe to drive. It comes with a number of electronic safety systems such as a blind spot proximity warning system, a surround-view system with parking guidance, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Other standard issues included in a Kia K900 are eight airbags, a tire-pressure warning system, anti-lock airbrakes and electronic stability control. Optional items include an advance collision warning system and adaptive cruise control.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance for Highway Safety (IIHS) have not performed any crash tests yet on the Kia K900. But considering the many advanced safety features that are standard issues in the car, you can have the confidence that this car is safe to drive.
Comfort and Quality
You will experience quiet comfort inside the cabin of the Kia K900. Thanks to the noise-reduction measures which include laminated front and side windows, and underbody trays that reduce air nose.
The Kia K900 is a very comfortable car that straddles the middle of luxury sedans. It is not too splashy or too strong. But it offers comfort and quiet dependability.
With its 16-way power adjustment on the driver’s seat, you will be able to easily get in and out of the car. This car also provides a very comfortable seating at the rear, with a lot of space and legroom.
