Hummer is an American brand of trucks and SUVs known for their rugged, off-road capabilities and distinctive, military-inspired design. The brand originated as a civilian version of the military Humvee (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle), which was developed by AM General for the U.S. military.

The first Hummer model, the H1, was introduced in 1992 and quickly gained a following among outdoor enthusiasts and celebrities. In 1999, General Motors acquired the brand from AM General and introduced the smaller, more affordable H2 and H3 models.

Hummers have been popular among off-road enthusiasts and those seeking a bold, powerful vehicle that can handle any terrain. However, the brand has also faced criticism for its size and fuel consumption, and sales declined in the wake of the 2008 recession and rising gas prices.

In 2010, General Motors announced that it would be discontinuing the Hummer brand as part of its restructuring efforts. However, in 2020, the brand was revived as an all-electric vehicle manufacturer under the ownership of GMC, a subsidiary of General Motors.

The new Hummer electric vehicle (EV), known as the Hummer EV, is set to debut in 2022 and is touted as the world’s first all-electric supertruck. The vehicle features advanced technology such as the Ultium Drive system, which delivers up to 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque, as well as a range of up to 300 miles on a single charge.

The Hummer EV also includes features such as CrabWalk, which allows the vehicle to move diagonally for easier maneuvering in tight spaces, and Extract Mode, which raises the suspension to clear obstacles when off-roading.

The revival of the Hummer brand as an electric vehicle manufacturer represents a significant shift for the brand, which was once known for its gas-guzzling, environmentally unfriendly vehicles. The new Hummer EV is part of GMC’s broader commitment to sustainability and transitioning to a carbon-neutral future. The brand is also exploring the possibility of offering electric versions of its other popular models, such as the Sierra pickup truck.
