About Scion xD

Scion is Toyota’s in-house brand targeted specifically for Generation Y, the Millennials born from the 1980s to the early 2000s. These are the young adults getting into driving today and they are the consumers looking not for speed and pure, raw power but reliability and good fuel economy.

The Scion xD fulfills those needs without looking completely out of place. The quirky, fun-looking design is perfect for the new generation and it does have a lot to say about its performance; it’s not a racing car, it’s a compact hatchback and from there it builds its strengths.

To understand why it is still a good choice, why not first look into its specs.

Driving the Scion xD

Scion xD 0-60One glance at the numbers and it is pretty obvious that the Scion xD is no speed devil. This is not the vehicle to bet a race on but it does have three things going for it: affordability, reliable driving, and good fuel efficiency.

The Scion xD has been known in recent years for its very good track record. Every Scion xD drives smoothly despite being the weaker bunch amidst the rest of the speedier hatchbacks in the market emerging today. The steering feels right, maneuvering is a breeze, the brakes and suspension have that gratifying firm feel that lets you know you’re in control.

So yes, while it won’t get you from 0 to 60 in five seconds flat it will get you to your destination safely and comfortably.

Interior of the Scion xD

The Scion xD does lack in one aspect the moment you step inside and that is luxury. But then again if you were shopping for a luxury car then the Scion xD wouldn’t ever make your list. It does excel, however, in making good use of its limited space.
For one, the rear seats are foldable so you instantly get extra cargo room there. They also recline so any unfortunate fellow sitting in the back can still relax and get reasonable leg room. The tall ceiling is a great advantage too.

There are also a ton of nooks and crannies and compartments for all your phones and wallets. It’s like the xD was built specifically for a mobile life.

The dashboard is pretty boring but there is a very impressive 6.1 HD touch panel that also features a more modern audio system, so there’s that. There’s nothing really extremely pretty to write home about but in just a few rides here and there it will feel comfortable enough you’ll ever forget about the dull but adequate aesthetic.

Exterior of the Scion xD

The Scion xD is technically the smaller brother of the Scion xB but it somehow looks and feels like a sleeker, more modern vehicle. It might be because of the higher beltline and shorter hood but it does feel like it is a bit squat without being so square.
Fortunately there are 2 new colors available and the Scion xD is loaded with additional accessories that you can later tack on like a rear spoiler or a carbon fiber appliqué.

Visually, the vehicle is not really impressive but it is not as boxy as the xB and it definitely has some attitude to it. The design is a little wearing thin after a few years but the slight changes still make it look like a decent car to drive around in. At least you won’t feel ashamed to be seen in it.

Problems and Advantages

The best thing going for the Scion xB is its fuel efficiency and how reliable it is on the road. It has a perfect track record with its previous models and the same tradition lives on here. It is very easy and very smooth to drive – you’ll hardly feel any resistance or difficulty handling the car.

The real problem is that it is not very fast and when you really push it to its limits it starts to get really loud. This is not really a good thing for any car but you’ll hardly be driving this on the highway anyway; it was built for practical trips in the city and it excels when it is in its zone.

The Scion xD is a very good choice if you want to cut down on expenses since it is a very affordable car and it saves cash on gas too. You won’t have a hard time driving it and it is ideal for a young adult who just needs a ride from his/her apartment to work or school and then vice versa. It’s not fast but then not all cars need to be.
