2020 Lincoln Corsair: Is It Worth the Price?

The Lincoln Corsair. A vehicle that stands with the name synonymous to the buccaneer that sails the high seas. Despite the name, it has that feel of sophistication and refinement that comes as a luxury SUV.

It carries a handsome appearance that comes with the Lincoln brand. Although its appearance harkens more towards the likes of the Ford Escape.

It harkens back to the question of whether the Lincoln Corsair has the properties that befit its premium price tag. When comparing it to the previous Lincoln models, it becomes a struggle to compare. Here, we explore whether if it lives up to the name and the sticker price.

Lincoln Corsair When Compared to the Lincoln MKC

When you look at its features, the Corsair stands as the successor or replacement to the MKC. With which the MKC itself also patterns its design elements from the Ford Escape. Albeit being a more compact version of it.

With few buyers confusing the two models, they even end up cross-shopping the Lincoln and the Ford Escape. The Lincoln stands out with its size, not to mention that despite its price, you get your money’s worth.

The Engine Performance

The Lincoln Corsair’s engine offers a lot of power. Evident through its turbocharged four-cylinder engines. It comes with a 2.0-liter I-4 engine. Capable of generating 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, and this is just the base engine.

Corsair Reserve buyers can take that further with a 2.3-liter. That can produce 280 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

Despite the 2.3-liter engine’s quickness, the difference is rather small compared to the base engine. When comparing the acceleration from 0 to 60 mph, the base engine can achieve that in 7.3 seconds. On the other hand, the 2.3-liter variant achieves this in 6.5 seconds.

Chassis and Handling

In terms of handling, the Corsair comes with a lightweight chassis and direct steering. This allows for better handling with a smooth and nimble feel while driving. In a way, you can say the vehicle comes to life but lets you remain in control.

The Corsair is also a quiet ride thanks to its advanced suspension system. It is something that makes it rise above the Escape.

It comes with a rear integral bush suspension. It can be further augmented with an optional continuous controlled damping system. With it, the riding experience becomes smoother.

The all-wheel-drive system allows for a smooth transition from its default front-wheel-drive. This allows the vehicle to integrate the rear wheels when needed. This provides better performance and maneuverability while off-road by sending power rearward.

The Interior

Taking a look inside the Lincoln Corsair, it is as spacious as its predecessors were. This premium space coddles and pampers its passengers and drivers with its high-grade leather interior. It’s ergonomic and soft to the touch.

The floating center console comes with slanted buttons for an ergonomic feel, something that gives the Corsair its mid-century modern vibe. Steering wheel controls come at the minimum, paving way for ease of use without the need to look down. For instance, the clever push-to-talk button being where the thumb rests.

Another testament to the Corsair’s spacious interior is evident in the second row. It has ample legroom and headroom. As well as the inclusion of its air vents, two USB ports, and a 12-volt power outlet. Combine that with top-notch features like the rich sound from the Revel stereo system, seat adjustment buttons, and underfloor storage compartments.

If you need a vehicle fitting for five passengers, the Lincoln Corsair delivers a service that befits a luxury SUV.

The Bottomline

With all the features put into light, the question stands. Does the Lincoln Corsair deliver as much as what the price tag offers?

If you aim to save money with your purchase, going for something like the Audi Q3 or the Volvo XC40 would suffice. These SUV models provide a comparable performance from its features to its handling and horsepower. It also offers the same AWD system, as for the case of the Volvo XC40.

If you want to flaunt your wealth, you can choose to go for the Evoque. Although it may not hold up to the same sophistication and value as it should.

The Lincoln Corsair stands out as a luxury SUV worth every penny. It has the refinement and air of class to its design and features. It stands up to the Lincoln brand and the premium price tag, but it lives up to what it offers.

Like the buccaneer braving the turbulent waves and the high seas, the Lincoln Corsair offers a smooth ride that makes you savor every cent spent. You get what you pay for with this one.
